Digest 346 Part 1 Assessment of wind loads: background and method

Publication Year

1992

Document Status

Current

Abstract

Compatible with the forthcoming British Standard BS 6399: Part 2. Extensive calibrations of the draft BS 6399: Part 2 during the public comment period have resulted in the reinstatement of a modified 'Division-by-parts' rule for slender buildings; this Digest has been amended accordingly. This Digest considers the assessment of wind loads on domestic, commercial and industrial buildings and their associated ancillary constructions. It describes: i) the procedure used in assessing wind loads; ii) the principal changes in practice between the old BS and its replacement; iii) the response to wind effects of different structures; iv) the wind climate and the derivation of wind speeds to be used in design; v) load assessment and pressure coefficients.
