Abstract
Deals with the installation, use and maintenance of hand-held electric arc welding equipment. The guidance is intended for those who manage or supervise work where this type of equipment is used, and those who specify or buy in such equipment. It identifies the risks that can arise when using this equipment, and advises on safety precautions which will minimise these risks. Special or unusual operations, such as underwater welding, are excluded. It amends advice relating to earthing, where welding sets with reinforced transformer insulation are brought into use. The different earthing philosophies are summarised in Table 1.
