Abstract
Intended to contribute to improving conditions for cyclists and pedestrians, and has been developed to be integral with DETR's principal objective of protecting and improving the environment. The potential exists for bridges to be treated as part of the Sustrans concept of the "travelling landscape" and for each bridge to be considered unique. Each structure whether old or new has the potential to include cycleways in a way which is sensitive to the design of the bridge and to the urban or rural context in which they exist.
