Abstract
Energy requirements and fuel consumption of HVAC systems have a direct impact on the cost of operating a building and an indirect impact on the environment. Discusses methods for estimating energy use for two purposes: modelling for the design of buildings and HVAC systems and associated design optimization (forward modelling); and modelling the energy use of existing buildings for establishing baselines and calculating retrofit savings (inverse modelling).
