Abstract
The purpose of this paper is three fold; to set out an initial framework for a possible Institute policy on 'Sustainable Development'; to form the basis for an Institute contribution to the thinking about UK's first annual report to the UN Commission on Sustainable Development and; to provide an Institute approach as a basis to respond to other governmental requests for views in this field.
