Abstract
Covers alterations and adaptations to existing non-residential buildings to provide improved access for disabled people and those whose mobility is otherwise impaired. The first part of the book summarises the changing attitude to accessibility, and stresses the benefits to everyone of improved accessibility. The second part of the book gives detailed design guidance for providing full or improved accessibility. It starts with approach to the building and arrival, leads on to circulation within the building, then to the provision of services and facilities for specific uses, and finally to leaving the building, including emergency evacuation.
