Guidance on the phase out of halon

Abstract

In accordance with EC regulation 2037/2000 - substances that deplete the ozone layer - the use of halons in fire protection systems is prohibited from 31 December 2002. In addition, fire protection systems and fire extinguishers containing halons must be decommissioned by 31 December 2003. This leaflet gives advice on halon system management, training for competent personnel who handle halons, details of recovery/recycling and defines the critical use of halons.
