Abstract
Explains how beam-to-column and beam-to-beam connections can be deliberately designed with composite action to provide quantifiable end restraint. Also included is guidance on global analysis of frames, considering both elastic and plastic methods. Thus the effects of joint behaviour at serviceability and ultimate limit states can be accounted for. Such composite connections are recognised by Eurocode 4 but no detailed rules are supplied, this document therefore includes design recommendations in the form of model code clauses. These can be used together with Eurocode 4 and are in harmony with design provisions for steel structures supplied in Eurocode 3. Also provides worked examples and "Getting started" section.
