Report 597 Rural traffic calming in Bird Lane, Brentwood (Essex)
Publication Year
2004
Document Status

Abstract
The lane was originally between 4 and 5m wide, mostly with no centre markings, and the verges were becoming heavily degraded where two vehicles passed each other. There was no footway and walking and cycling were unpleasant. The traffic calming scheme aimed to reduce traffic by deterring rat running and encourage non motorised use of the lane by narrowing part of the lane to a 3m single track road, with passing places, by adding a footway between passing places, and designating it as a 20mph zone.
