Abstract

The highway network is the most important part of the land based transport infrastructure in Europe, and a reliable, integrated system of inspection, assessment and maintenance is required to ensure safety of road users. Describes the findings of the working group that considered remedial measures, and deals mainly with; preventative measures to control, arrest or prevent further deterioration and, repairs to restore the condition of deteriorated components and elements. Covers: concrete, steel, masonry arch and timber bridges, culverts and underpasses, culverts and retaining walls, but not very long span bridges or low value structures.
