Abstract
Aimed at directors of facilities, designers, architects and project managers. Describes the basic facilities that should be associated with the entrance area to meet the needs of patients, visitors and staff, as well as optional additional facilities that may enhance enjoyment. Suggests similar principles are applied to external areas of a hospital site. Stresses the importance of employing friendly, professional staff. Emphasises the impact an effective way-finding strategy has in reducing stress levels. The principles in this document should be applied to new buildings and areas for refurbishment.
