Abstract

Describes an investigation of the settlement and stability of a road embankment constructed on compressible alluvium along the re-aligned section of the A40 trunk road to the west of Gloucester. Covers description of site, instrumentation, construction work and site measurement, laboratory and in-situ testing, settlement analyses, calculation of stability, and discussion of results.
