Abstract
Examines the benefits of single rooms in acute hospital accommodation and establishes the minimum space requirements around the hospital bed. The main issues addressed in the research are: contributing to control of healthcare associates infections (HCAI), complying with the DDA 1995, meeting the needs of Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992, particularly with regard to lifting patients, meeting the needs of privacy and choice and seeking affordable solutions that encompasses all of the above issues.
