Abstract

Discusses the integration of land use, economic development, environmental issues and transport planning to realise the vision of a Scotland where the economy can flourish and communities can function without significant environmental and social problems arising from car dependency, traffic congestion and pollution.

Superseded by Scottish planning policy (Scottish Government, 2010) which itself has been superseded by Scottish planning policy (Scottish Government, 2014). To be read with Implementation of aspects of SPP17: planning for transport (Scottish Government, 2008); PAN 75: Planning for transport and Transport assessment and implementation: a guide (both SEDD, 2005). Supersedes NPPG 9: Provision of roadside facilities on motorways and trunk roads in Scotland (Scottish Office, 1996); NPPG 17: Transport and planning (Scottish Office, 1999); SPP 17: Transport and planning maximum parking standards. Addendum to NPPG 17 (SEDD, 2003) and SPP 17 (Consultation): Planning for transport (SEDD, 2004). SPP 17 is part of a new series of planning policy documents, which will gradually update all NPPGs.
