Laboratory Report LR 36 Influence of the coarse fraction on the plastic properties of clay soils

Abstract
Examines mixtures of montmorillonite and kaolinite with coarser materials. In the experiments documented, the latter fraction variably consists of glass spheres, angular glass or quartz particles, and mica with platy particles. Concludes that the characteristics of the coarser fraction can have an appreciable effect in determining the plastic properties of soils, an important aspect of their engineering behaviour.
