Abstract

Discusses policy for ensuring that the concept of sustainable development, which underpins the Regional Development Strategy, is inherent in all new development in the Northern Ireland countryside. This is as a result of current policies to control new development which are resulting in trends that are not sustainable, nor in the long-term interests of the region.

Consultation closed on 9 June 2006. To be read with Regional development strategy for Northern Ireland 2025 (Shaping our future) (DRDNI, 2001), Environmental assessment - public consultation draft: environmental report and Public consultation - draft equality impact assessment (both DRDNI, 2006). Superseded by re-issued Draft planning policy statement 14 - sustainable development in the countryside (DOENI, 2007).
