Abstract
Sets out national planning policy for sports and recreation in urban and rural settings and for provision and protection of open space within and on the edges of settlements. It introduces national minimum standards for open space in new developments.

Consultation closed on 3 November 2006. To be read with NPPG 11: Sport, physical recreation and open space (Scottish Office, 1996). Replaced by SPP 11 Open space and physical activity and Scottish Planning Policy 11: Open space and physical activity consultation report (both Scottish Government, 2007).
