Abstract
Presents findings which tell us about the strengths and weaknesses of the work prepared by five different local authorities in implementing core strategies. These strategies are a new tool for local planning introduced by the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act (2004) with the aim of enhancing the strategic role of local authorities, and set the vision for spatial change and policies in the area. The report also provides practice pointers for local authorities and others to consider when developing core strategies in the future.
