Abstract
Covers general requirements, testing, classification, identification, marking and documents, protection against electrical and mechanical hazards, protection from radiation, protection against excessive temperatures, accuracy of controls and instruments and protection against hazardous outputs, fault conditions, programmable electrical medical systems (PEMS), construction and electromagnetic compatibility.

Supersedes BS EN 60601-1:1990, BS EN 60601-1-4:1997 and BS EN 60601-1-1:2001 which are declared obsolescent and remain current. Also known as IEC 60601-1:2005.
