Fire research technical report 2/2007 Development of a lower-cost sprinkler system for domestic premises in the UK
Publication Year
2007
Document Status
Current
Abstract
Installing fire suppression systems in domestic premises is not current practice in the UK, mainly due to financial constraints. This project looked at designing a cost-effective prototype fire suppression system modelled on the BRANZ system and utilising a distribution network of sprinkler pipes and domestic water system. Discusses hydraulic trials, compartment fires and water supply issues.
Document History
The following important note appears within this document: "No systems should be built in the UK to the research design in this report since some of its recommendations currently do not comply with the Water supply (water fittings) regulations 1999. In addition further research needs to be carried out to ensure that there is adequate flow and pressure for sufficient periods of time to satisfy expectation, and that the quality and accuracy of measurement of the water supplied for domestic purposes is not prejudiced."
