Abstract
Explains six key strategies that can be used now by land managers, to help wildlife adapt to climate change, to conserve biodiversity. The guidance recommends that to allow species to find new homes as climate changes, it will be necessary to manage entire landscapes, not just the protected sites where species now occur.

To be read with Working with the grain of nature - a biodiversity strategy for England (DEFRA, 2002) and England biodiversity strategy - towards adaptation to climate change (DEFRA, 2007). No longer applicable as new strategy released - 'Biodiversity 2020: a strategy for England's wildlife and ecosystem services' (DEFRA, 2011).
