Abstract

Sets out air quality objectives and policy options to further improve air quality in the UK from today into the long term. As well as direct benefits to public health, these options are intended to provide important benefits to quality of life and help to protect the environment.

Superseded with regard to England by Air quality strategy: framework for local authority delivery (DEFRA, 2023). Also superseded with regard to Wales by lean air plan for Wales. Healthy air, healthy Wales (Welsh Government, 2020) with the exception of the air quality objectives in Table 2 which remain extant in Wales. Still in force in Scotland and Northern Ireland. To be read with Air quality strategy for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland - Volume 2 (DEFRA, 2007) and Air pollution - action in a changing climate (DEFRA, 2010). Supersedes Air quality strategy for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland: working together for clean air.
