Abstract

Summarises results of the quality audits of SCANNER (Surface Condition Assessment of the National Network of Roads) and SRMCS (Scottish Road Maintenance Condition Survey) contractors carried out in 2005/06. Outlines the advice that has been provided by TRL during that period, and considers the key issues that have arisen. Intended to reassure local authorities and DfT that SCANNER data are consistent and suitable for national performance monitoring, and a quality assurance procedure was incorporated into the SCANNER specification.
