Abstract
Contextualises Ireland’s new art galleries in an international trend. Considers problems in providing arts centres, including the mythologizing of the beneficial economic effects they bring to communities, the differing expectations and experiences from local people, and meeting the needs of a variety of displays with one space. Suggests the best course of action for architects.
