Abstract
Initially produced to help bidders and designers prepare their schemes. Also for local authority clients when developing their briefs and evaluating the schemes presented to them by consortia. Sets out the key issues to consider when designing secondary schools. Also highlights the key strategies for each of the criteria that CABE expects consortia and design teams to have addressed when coming into review.

Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment
Now defunct, the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment was the government's advisor on architecture, urban design and public space. They replaced the Royal Fine Art Commission in 1999. In April 2011, the Design Council and CABE joined to become one organisation.
