Abstract

Sets out a planning framework for the continuing economic and social viability of coastal communities. The policy aims to strike the right balance between economic prosperity and reducing the consequences of coastal change on communities.

Supersedes Planning policy consultation - consultation paper on a new planning policy on development and coastal change (DCLG, 2009) and PPG 20: Coastal planning (DETR, 1992), with the exception of paragraphs 2.9, 2.10 and 3.9. To be read with Planning for development and coastal change - impact assessment and Planning policy statement 25 supplement: development and coastal change - practice guide (both DCLG, 2010). Superseded by National planning policy framework (DCLG, 2012).
