Abstract
Describes the Government’s Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) for assessing the energy performance of dwellings. The SAP rating is based on the energy costs associated with space heating, water heating, ventilation and lighting, less cost savings from energy generation technologies. The SAP rating is expressed on a scale of 1 to 100, the higher the number the lower the running costs. Applicable to self-contained dwellings.
Document History
SAP 2009 will be introduced from October 2010 and will be used for compliance with building regulations in England and Wales (Part L) and in Scotland (Section 6) and for the generation of EPCs for new dwellings. SAP 2005 will continue to be used for RdSAP assessments which will be revised following the implementation of SAP 2009. First published by the DOE (now the DECC) and BRE in 1993, and amended in 1994. The first edition was superseded by the 1998, and then 2001 editions. Version 9.90 dated March 2010. With corrections, May 2010. Published on behalf of DECC by BRE. This document has previously been available on The Construction Information Service via the publishers ODPM and DEFRA.
