Abstract

Relates to SI 2010/1627, which transpose the requirements of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive 2008/56/EC into UK law. It establishes a high-level legal framework that ensures that the obligations which the Directive places on the UK are assigned to a competent authority, and those competent authorities are given the necessary powers to carry out their roles. The Marine Strategy Framework Directive requires the UK to take necessary measures to achieve or maintain a good environmental status in the marine environment by 2020.
