Abstract

Describes a project to establish appropriate benchmarks for road safety in Northern Ireland. Initially the project tried to compare NI with GB, but a direct comparison was not possible, so statistical modelling was used and the results analysed. The models indicated that though NI had a better safety record for motorways and urban roads in 2008, for rural roads it was worse.
