Abstract
Presents the results of a study into the factors affecting congestion on motorways, two sites were chosen with regular congestion problems: M4 eastbound between junctions 19 and 20 and M25 anti-clockwise between junctions 11 and 12. The factors investigated included: merge/diverge percentage, HGV percentage, precipitation and lighting conditions.
