Abstract

Gives guidance on health and safety practices in shaft sinking and tunnelling. Includes safety considerations relating to maintenance, renovation and repair of the shafts and tunnels, including cut-and cover tunnelling and immersed tube tunnels. The recommendations are not specifically intended to apply to the construction of shafts or tunnels for the purpose of winning minerals.

Superseded by BS 6164:2019. Supersedes BS EN 6164:2001. As a code of practice this standard is for guidance and recommendations and care should be taken to ensure claims of compliance are not misleading. Confirmed June 2016.
