Abstract

Relate to SI 2012/1928, which amend the Offshore Marine Conservation (Natural Habitats, etc.) Regulations 2007 (SI 2007/1842), placing duties on Competent Authorities, in relation to the offshore marine area, to (a) take steps in the exercise of their functions that they consider appropriate, to meet the objective of preserving, maintaining and re-establishing habitat for wild birds, and (b) use all reasonable endeavours to avoid any pollution or deterioration of habitats for wild birds. The Regulations also provide for a duty on the Secretary of State and the Scottish Ministers to take such steps to encourage research and scientific work relating to the offshore marine area as they consider necessary for the purpose of the protection, management and use of wild bird populations.
