Abstract
Describes the range of services which are delivered from the new Plowright Medical Centre, and types of spaces needed to deliver these services. This smaller-scale GP practice was aiming to create a welcoming, modern and environmentally sustainable surgery building with light airy spaces which would be accessible to all. The finished centre has become a sustainability exemplar, using just 54 kWh of electricity and 90 kWh of gas per square metre per year, and it scored highly on design quality in CABE’s 2008 survey of completed LIFT buildings.
