Abstract
Gives best practice on the design and layout of critical care units that admit patients whose dependency levels are classified as level 2 or 3.

Published 20 March 2013. Supersedes Space for Health: Clinical Services 'Critical care units: Planning and design manual' and 'Critical care units: Policy and service context manual' (2011), which replaced HBN 57 (2003). Department of Health is now known as the Department of Health and Social Care.

Its work included setting national standards, shaping the direction of health and social care services and promoting healthier living. Publications included Space for Health: Technical Manuals, as well as the Health Building Notes, Health Technical Memorandums, and White Papers. They were renamed to the Department of Health and Social Care. However responsibility for technical guidance was then transferred to NHS Improvement in February 2017 which is now part of NHS England and NHS Improvement.
