Abstract

Aimed at employers, managers and other dutyholders for health and safety, including the self-employed. Explains their duties under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, which requires them to assess the risks posed to workers and any others who may be affected by their work or business. Covers risk assessments and how to use them effectively to identify potential hazards and risks, preventive measures that can be applied and the management and surveillance of health and safety and procedures that should be followed in the event of serious or imminent danger. Also includes information for employees and guidance about health and safety responsibilities for temporary workers, expectant mothers and young people.

Practical advice on how to comply with the law is given. This Code has special legal status whereby if you are prosecuted for breach of health and safety law, and it is proved you did not follow the relevant provisions of the Code, you will need to show other ways in which you have complied with the law or a court will find you at fault. 2012 reprint.
