Abstract

Gives best practice guidance for building or refurbishing dedicated in-patient facilities for older people. These comprise of intermediate care facilities and facilities for people with dementia. Following the National Service Framework (NSF) for Older People which requires provision of new intermediate care places to provide rehabilitation and respite for older people and emphasises the need for ward environments which are clean and provide adequate privacy, space and rehabilitation services.
