Survey and repair of traditional buildings - a sustainable approach

Publication Year

2003

Abstract

The word repair is rarely heard in our throwaway society and, where buildings are concerned, repair is often seen as too time-consuming, too demanding of special skills and therefore too expensive to contemplate. Before tearing an old building apart it is worth reflecting on the embodied energy it represents. This publication calls for change and offers a suggested code of practice to guide property professionals towards a sustainable approach. Will assist surveyors and other professionals to a better understanding of building behaviour and might also supply useful evidence for anyone engaged in an eco-building project and needing to resist pressure to conform to conventions.
