Health Building Note 00-02 Sanitary spaces

Abstract
Provides evidence-based best practice guidance on the design and layout of sanitary spaces for use in healthcare settings. In places, the guidance differs from that provided in Approved Document M (2010) and BS 8300:2009. Where this is the case, the reasons for the variations are discussed.

Published 25 May 2016 - Reinstated section on grabrails and semi-ambulant WCs. New section on 'Changing Places' WC. Supersedes Space for Health: Spaces and Costs information for sanitary spaces, which replaced Core elements - sanitary spaces (2008). Department of Health is now known as the Department of Health and Social Care.

The Department of Health was committed to improving the quality and convenience of care provided by the NHS and social services. Its work included setting national standards, shaping the direction of health and social care services and promoting healthier living. Publications included Space for Health: Technical Manuals, as well as the Health Building Notes, Health Technical Memorandums, and White Papers. They were renamed to the Department of Health and Social Care. However responsibility for technical guidance was then transferred to NHS Improvement in February 2017 which is now part of NHS England and NHS Improvement.
