Abstract
Introduces the term Public Transport Oriented Development (PTOD), which aims to sustainably integrate land use and transport planning, and discusses how this approach could be adopted in medium to small towns. Argues effective coordination is needed across different types of authorities to implement this approach, looking at identifying suitable sites through mechanisms linking locations to transport and other facilities, incentivising PTOD, use of business rates relief and community engagement.
