Abstract
Provides guidance for customers appointing (by competition or negotiation) a contractor, and establishes common standards of practice for verification by independent assessment. Covers integrated control of a range of systems. Defines best practice for ‘shutdown’ procedures for building services plants, covering the safety and security of the property, interim maintenance and eventual re-commissioning to full function.

A trade organisation meeting the needs of building engineering services contractors involved with design, installation, commissioning, maintenance, control and management of engineering systems and services in buildings. It was established in 1904 as the National Association of Master Heating and Domestic Engineers and has been through a few name changes since, including: Heating and Ventilating Contractors' Association (HVCA) and from 2012 it was the known as the Building and Engineering Services Association (BES).
