Abstract

Clarifies terminology used for zinc-coated bolts, nuts and washers (galvanized, sherardized and electro-plated) and considers the market factors influencing the availability of sherardized bolts. Explains that current techniques for hot-dip galvanized structural bolts have reduced the occurrence of bolt galling/lock up and provides advice for the use of lubricants.
