Abstract
Explains the principles behind the sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) standards for Wales and details the design standards needed to ensure that the most effective drainage scheme is built. The standards cover: surface water runoff destination; surface water runoff hydraulic control; water quality; amenity; biodiversity; and design of drainage for construction, operation and maintenance. Discusses the regulatory framework behind SuDS emphasising the importance of design and pre-application discussions and touching on flood risk management, Building Regulations, adoption and maintenance, flood risk register, access issues, biodiversity and resilience of ecosystems duty under the Environment Wales Act 2016, troubleshooting if SuDS causes a nuisance and also water quality. Also provides a glossary of terms.
