Abstract
Outlines the risks posed by fires to healthcare premises and the lack of recommendations for installation in current guidance. Looks at how automatic fire sprinkler installations can benefit existing practices such as progressive horizontal evacuation procedures. Highlights relevant requirements given in building regulations technical guidance documents, the Firecode and HTM 05-02, HTM 88 and SHTM 82. Also covers sprinkler system operation, types of system, relevant standards, the code of practice and environmental issues.
