Abstract
Details general rules and requirements relating to earthquake resistant design, focusing on defining seismic actions, analysis methods, compliance and verification criteria. Covers: basis and implementation of design, site conditions and seismic action, and deformation criteria. Also includes European seismic hazard maps, alternative site categories, elastic response, input motions, displacement analyses, verification formats, design of fastenings to concrete and material and product properties.
Document History
This document is considered to be a second generation Eurocode and can be used to prepare for the transition from first to second generation of Eurocodes. The first generation Eurocode should be used as the applicable standard for building and civil engineering works constructed in the UK. First generation Eurocodes will be withdrawn by BSI on 30 March 2028 and will be replaced by second generation Eurocodes. Supersedes BS EN 1998-1:2004+A1:2013. The National Annex contains national choices for buildings and civil engineering works constructed in the UK.
