Vertical shear resistance of composite slabs (prEN 1994‐1‐1)

Publication Year

2023

Document Status

Current

Abstract

This publication addresses the conservative nature of the vertical shear resistance rules in BS EN 1994‐1‐1, noting that current guidance relies on rules for reinforced concrete slabs, which are not fully applicable to composite slabs. Various models proposed for Generation 2 prEN 1994‐1‐1 offer less conservative approaches, and while debate continues, it is expected that a model recognizing decking contribution will be adopted, with national flexibility on the extent of this contribution. The proposed method for the UK aligns with a French approach used since 2015, incorporating a 50% reduction factor for decking contribution.
