Abstract
Provides rules and requirements relating to earthquake resistant design for new buildings, including structural materials and ancillary elements. Aspects covered focus on: basis of design, modelling and structural analysis, verification to limit states, base isolated buildings, buildings with energy dissipation systems, specific rules for building materials: concrete, steel, composite steel-concrete, timber, masonry, or aluminium.
Document History
This document is considered to be a second generation Eurocode and can be used to prepare for the transition from first to second generation of Eurocodes. The first generation Eurocode should be used as the applicable standard for building and civil engineering works constructed in the UK. First generation Eurocodes will be withdrawn by BSI on 30 March 2028 and will be replaced by second generation Eurocodes. Supersedes BS EN 1998-1:2004+A1:2013. The National Annex contains national choices for buildings and civil engineering works constructed in the UK. Amendment dated 30/04/2026 - Implementation of CEN correction notice 22 April 2026: An error in displaying the images has been corrected.
