Abstract
These recommendations are applicable to the use of power, heating and lighting systems which may be introduced on a temporary basis in the event of interruption of the normal power supply or breakdown of a primary system.

Formed from a merger of the Fire Offices Committee, the Fire Insurers Research and Testing Organisation and the Insurers Technical Bureau in 1984, the Loss Prevention Council (LPC) later went on to develop a certification body, the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB), itself taken over by BRE Certification in April 2000. Other LPC documents are now available from the Fire Protection Association.
