Report BR 122 Load tests on full-scale cold formed steel roofs. Part 1: Sigma purlin system

Publication Year

1988

Document Status

Current

Abstract

The work presented in this report investigates the performance of part of a full-scale, cold formed, sigma purlin roof under test loads representative of drifting snow. The tests carried out included: - the application of uniformly and variably distributed loads up to working load. - long-term load tests. - the application of an increasing variably distributed load until structural failure occurred. The report compares the performance of the roof subject to the different loading regimes and identifies the additional forces induced by the variably distributed load. The performance of the roof under the long-term loads and load to failure are discussed, and tentative recommendations are put forward for long-term testing. Recommendations are made for the design of roofs subjected to drifting snow.
