Report BR 164 Sulphate resistance of buried concrete. The third report on a long-term investigation at Northwick Park and on similar concretes in sulphate solutions at BRE

Publication Year

Document Status

Abstract

Long-term field and laboratory investigation into sulphate resistance of concrete was started in 1970. Samples of various types of concrete were buried in a sulphate-bearing soil in three replicate plots designed to be excavated after 5, 15 and 25 years. The installation was controlled by BRE and British Cement Association (BCA - formerly C & CA). This report gives the results of testing the specimens taken from the site after 15 years of exposure and of testing cubes taken from sulphate solutions after storage for periods of up to 15 years.
