Abstract
Looks at two main strands. Building control legislation, which seeks to ensure that new buildings, or buildings undergoing structural alterations, have adequate means of escape and are constructed so as to resist the spread of fire. Fire precautions legislation, which deals with the continuing management of existing buildings, and applies to workplaces, but not to single domestic dwellings.
